Not something we brits are known to be huge fans of, so is Nascar 2008 going to bring the sport alive for us in this new EA offering?
Well, when you think Nascar you think boring tracks a million laps and people with over-bright uniforms on, right? Well, I'm afraid if you play this you can add 'that EA nascar game' to the list. Exciting this isn't and, critically, this game breaks with EA's usual form in that, well, its not really that good!
Now, I wasn't expecting miracles (of the boring-sport-comes-good type) but the gameplay i nthis really is quite boring. Yes it all looks lovely in big, bold HD graphics.. but plugging away for hours just to master the controls soon takes the edge off this.
EA have concentrated heavily on the sim aspect of NASCAR and the reult is quite impressively detailed just not very absorbing. This is a title for the true fans - not one you could play casually and come back to for a quick blast of racing excitement, as you would to Need For Speed or Colin Macrae Dirt.
All this may have been 'acceptable' back when the price of games was 'acceptable, but now? Well, I wouldn't bother - they're already selling on ebay for a snip so if you really must try this then do yourself a favour and do it on a budget!
